Istanbul Museum of Water Civilizations × Işık University · March – June 2026
In the Trace of WaterSpace and Memory · An AI Workshop
Where, and how, does water want to exist in this space?

A group of architecture students photographed the visible and invisible traces of water in the museum, trained an AI model on their own concepts, and produced two designs for the same spot by two different routes.

The workshop
The workshop treated water not only as a resource but as an actor that shapes space, carries memory and transforms experience. Observations were combined with AI to develop new spatial proposals.
Research question
At which stage of the design process does AI change the architectural outcome, and how?
Two processes, one spot
Process 1 · AI as analyst
The machine reads, the student designs. A model trained on the students' photographs scores the route photo against the concepts, and the student uses those numbers as input.
Process 2 · AI as generator
The student writes, the machine draws. Three concepts become one design sentence, and a prompt generates an installation on top of a photograph of the real space.
